Rebooting The Pwning Life Project

“Pwning Life” started out as just an idea that came to me one night. It makes PERFECT sense to people from the gamer generation/culture. The challenge, ever since having that idea, was building a system of my own around it. I’ve read a number of books on personal development, but none of them have been “the one” for me. The Pwning Life Project has been an attempt to develop the system that’s just right for me and people like me (lets call them gamers).

The New Focus Of This Blog

Looking back on my old posts makes it clear to me I didn’t know exactly what I should do with this blog. At first I thought I’d write articles about how to “pwn life” but… I wasn’t exactly an expert. Eventually I was determined to come up with a system for pwning life and thought I’d give regular (daily/weekly/monthly) updates. That didn’t last long.

The new focus will be sharing the progress I’m making with the development of the system AND the (worldwide!) offline meetups.

The System

This looks simple but it has taken me 9 months to reach. It isn’t the “final version” but it’s pretty darn close! This is the system I’ve been successfully using for the last 9 months. Here’s a little more detail:

  1. Confusion. You’re not sure what you should be focused on.
  2. Goal writing. This helps you clarify what you goals are.
  3. Goal selection. You choose the one (MAYBE two) goal(s) to focus on.
  4. Brainstorming. Come up with ideas as to how you can achieve the goal.
  5. Action plan. Create a detailed plan based on your brainstorming.
  6. ACT! Take steps every day which bring you closer to achieving your goal.
  7. Complete, change or refocus goal.
  8. Start the process again to choose a new goal!

I have a lot more details, but those are the basics.

The Meetup

I had my first of many to come Pwning Life meetups last night. I would like to see hundreds (one day thousands) of Pwning Life meetups being help around the world loosely (or tightly ;) ) based on the system I put together. I’ll have more information about how to organize a Pwning Life meetup on this website really soon, but if you would like to dive right in go to the Pwning Life Meetups Everywhere page and start a local group. Here’s a photo from last night’s meetup:

What’s To Come?

As I said, I’m going to make the focus of this blog on the development of the pwning life system. I’m going to start with sharing the steps as they are now, tips for organizing meetups and new developments as they arise. This blog will naturally flow into updates about the book (when it’s getting written) and the Andriod/iPhone app when that time comes. ;)

Hey, now that I’m in a community college, I can start clubs or groups. So how do you suppose a Pwning Life meeting would/should start or go?

I just added 2 pages today “Local Meetups” and “Start Pwning Life NOW!” Check those out. I need to add some more content to the local meetups page, but check out the steps for the system and the content I have there already. I’d use the in person meetups to touch base and help each other get over any hurdles they run into with their main goal. I just had my first meeting so… it’s new to me too! First step is starting a community in your area! :) You don’t even need a time and location to start a community. It just shows that someone is interested. I’ll probably also bring back regular live chats, but they’ll be organizer chats instead of pwning chats. :)

I was just going to say: Live chat would be awesome, as a real way for anyone interested in Pwning Life to get right in the middle of the action.

I think this is ripe for possibility. If you have people to show up to (i.e. people to keep you on your game), a whole group of people cheering you on, and a finely tuned, easily directed system to rely on…. I’d say you have the foundation for something great. I’d love to get in on this, again.

Anecdote: Was really feeling foggy working at my job for a couple weeks, having no direction, but when I took out a notepad during my break and started writing about goals and things I wanted/places to go/people to meet… It was like I was awake again, stumbling out of a stagnant slumber. This is something I truly want to be a part of.

Awesome. :) I’ve read through a lot of “life hacks,” self help and personal development books and I finally came to the conclusion that… They’re all “broken.” Many of them come from the point of view that their system is the “only” system you need. This line of thinking is as flawed in personal development as it is in martial arts. The life hacks required to become a language expert are going to be different than becoming a social entrepreneur.

Anyhow… I’m really pleased how this is all coming together. :) This foundation will naturally lead you to the hacks, books and people you need.

  2. Hi Miltownkid,

Glad your bringing back the pwning life project. Just some ideas that would make this project kick ass and bring it to life.

A Game Tag directory- people that want to pwn life and love gaming all have xbox tags. Hook us up with a way to connect with other pwners.

A live chat such as msn messenger – free and kicks ass to meet up whenever just need to make a mini-directory kind of thing. For emails and kicking ass in (insert game here).

Game reviews for the game player in all of us.

Then the real life shit on how we can provide services and recommend the products we think kick ass to each other to keep us pwning in comfort and style.

    What do you think?

      Hey Joe!

I totally agree with all of those suggestions! The gamertag directory sounds like an excellent idea! It’s always more fun gaming with like-minded people. I ultimately want to make this a “social network” of sorts so people could have profiles with that kind of information. I’m going to look into adding a chat component somehow…

For now, feel free to connect on the MilTownKlan forums. I’ve setup a category for Pwning Life so we can discuss features, ideas, etc. My end game is to turn it into an app that helps gamify life in a fun and EXTREMELY useful way. :)

A social experience, based on pwning life, all for gamers, huh?

  4. Jacob says:

You will likely not see me during these Meetups due to work (same as it was for the early on meetings). Still got to get that proper balance in my life which will make everything click into place. Will be working the system, you know? Soon as I’m able, I’ll put in time for work so you can count on me coming round. ;)
