Hey guys! I had about 3 other ideas for topics this week, but I’m writing this one last minute. We have a small crew right now, but it’s worth discussing. How do you guys think we should build up the “Pwning Life Tribe”? Give Tyler credit for even calling it the “Pwning Life Tribe“, I noticed it in the sidebar of his blog.
The Rough Draft
Here’s the basic idea I have for building up this blog (and MOVEMENT!!!… *ahem*). Let me know what you think:
Build a blog titled pwning life(check!)Post weekly AWESOME articles(Perhaps could use more awesome
)- Create a guide that walks a person though setting up an online pwning life journal (working on it)
- Make it easy for the
community of people pwning lifePwning Life Tribe to connect and follow each other (this page has gotten a lot better) - Do my best to answer questions people have about the various aspects of pwning life
- Encourage members of the tribe to tweet, like and share posts they think are awesome
- ??????
- PROFIT!
So there it is in a nutshell. Does that seem about right to you? Is there anything I should add? Anything I should get rid of? Something I should focus on more? Just let me know.
A Separate Blog For Pwning Life
After noticing other people do it, I’ve come to the conclusion that it makes the most sense to start a blog solely dedicated to pwning life. That way you have more freedom in what you write about and you don’t have to worry about clogging your blog up with too many posts about personal stuff (or too many about pwning life stuff). Also, if you haven’t noticed, I figured out how to list all of the latest blog posts from members of the Pwning Life Tribe in the sidebar. You can also subscribe to that list to keep up-to-date yourself.
I started my personal pwning life journal last week and my first post is a summary of all of my expenses for the month of July. My goal is to post (at least) one year of monthly expense evaluations. I’ve been wanting to do this for a few years now and I’m glad it’s finally taking shape.
Taking This Blog Seriously
As I’m sure most of you reading this know, I have a lot of interests. I’ve been building blogs and/or web communities since around 2002. The thing about them is I’ve mostly looked at them like “science projects.” A sandbox for me to experiment with, try new things, see how people react, etc. My personal YouTube account has also largely been an experiment in the sciences. That’s all taking a change with this blog.
I’ve noticed my focus largely shift in the past couple weeks. I’m becoming more and more interested in what it takes to create a “successful” blog. I’m finding myself reading and subscribing to blogs that are… about creating better blogs (kind of weird huh?) And I’m again drawn to books on personal development and coaching so I can do my best to deliver SAUCESOMENESS to this blog.
Basically, this blog has (in ninja stealth mode) moved to the top of my priority list and now I’m conscious of it. Just letting you guys know that I’m in this for the long haul.

You can delete that comment with the huge picture me haha. I’ll restate everything in this one.
I really like the addition to the side bar and being able to subscribe to each member of the Pwning Life Tribe. My suggestion for growing the community would be compiling all of the successful techniques and ideas we use to reach our goals into one video, blog post, or blog and use it as a ‘How to Start Pwning Life’ or The Official Pwning Life guide or something like that.
Great post!

I figured out what was going on with that large picture. It was that login in with Twitter plugin I had running. I turned it off.
That’s EXACTLY what I want to create (“The Official Pwning Life guide”). I’m going to start working on that. It’s basically going to be a document walking someone through the whys and hows of starting up a blog and getting familiar with the community.
Was “Pwning Life Tribe” inspired by Seth Godin’s “Tribes” book?
I’m pretty sure that’s where Tyler got the idea. I know he’s read the book and thinks it’s awesome. I’ve read it too (and it’s awesome
). I should probably read it again.
The last section of this article simply and completely describes the changes in my life that I’m making now.
I think the rough draft is a good basis for Pwning Life.
A thought that keeps crossing my mind is exactly what Gabe said. I think if we’d go about it in the way of “this is what we did to become awesome”, it would be really awesome, in general.

Nice! Better now than when you’re 30! (Although I’ve had equal drive, just in different stuff, like learning Chinese and martial arts). The basic “Guide to Pwning Life” is… Make goals/visions clear. Do stuff. Track progress. It’s pretty simple, but there are a bunch of ways to go about each “section.” There is also different categories for the Goals/visions -> Acting -> Track progress. I don’t have them set in stone yet, but it’ll be something like: relationships (family, friends, opposite (or same) sex), finances, health/fitness, community (or giving back), spirituality (not to be confused with religion), environment (like your living space), career… Hmmm… Maybe it would be a cool idea to make a goal/vision list for each of those categories.
I was going to say, you’ve been to Taiwan and back haven’t you?
And I love the idea!! (your last sentence) It would be awesome to have goal/dream/vision list for every area of your life. It would, simply put, pwn.
I think yes, a guide should be made about Pwning Life. And it would be made of win, I expect.
What I was thinking was, if there was a book. The more I thought about it, the more awesome it sounded: here’s the guide we took to pwning life, here are the areas we chose to pwn, these are the tools we used, and here are the case studies of our own tribe of members who pwned life this way. What do ya think?
